The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is extending the funding for the transnational STOP-FSGS consortium led by the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) together with scientists from the University Hospitals of Aachen, Erlangen, Greifswald and Cologne are involved in the research project. The consortium is working on deciphering the molecular basis and developing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for treating the kidney disease FSGS. During the third funding period scientists aim to generate standardized registers for patient samples and work together with patient representatives and organizations to develop a Germany-wide education and information platform. The BMBF is funding the consortium with around 2.6 million euros.
