Dr. Felicitas Hengel, III Medical Department, was awarded the Theodor Frerichs Prize 2025 by the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM). The prize, endowed with 30,000 euros, was awarded during the 131st Congress of Internal Medicine in Wiesbaden. Dr. Hengel was honoured for a scientific publication from the past year. In nephrotic syndrome, the kidney's filtering function is impaired, large amounts of protein are lost through the urine and there is pronounced water retention in the body. The scientist was able to show that certain autoantibodies are significantly involved in the development of the clinical picture - thus creating the basis for new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
With the Theodor Frerichs Prize, the DGIM honours outstanding scientific work that significantly advances the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of internal diseases.
