DFG extends Collaborative Research Center on Nephrogenetics with UKE participation.
The German Research Foundation (DFG) has extended funding for the existing Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1453 “Nephrogenetics (NephGen)”. In the CRC, doctors and scientists use genetic information to search for mechanisms underlying kidney diseases. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Tobias Huber, Director of the III Medical Clinic and Polyclinic, the UKE is participating in a sub-project on Fabry disease, a rare genetic lysosomal storage disease, with the aim of researching molecular mechanisms and new therapeutic approaches. The CRC, led by researchers from the University of Freiburg, will receive a total of 12 million euros in funding over the next four years.
